Jazz and Hip-Hop for charity
Jump into your pyjamas and ‘Do Something Funny for Money’
A UCLan fundraising dance event will give dancers and non-dancers the chance to get moving!
For Tuesday, March 15, 2011, the Dance Club has organised a unique charity event at the Foster Sports Centre to raise money for the Red Nose Day.
Being a gym member or non-member, anyone is welcome to join either one or two dancing sessions at the venue. A donation of £2 per class for the 6-7pm Jazz dance with Katy, the 7-8pm energetic Hip-Hop unit with George or £3 to join both has been asked by the team in order to raise as much as they can for charity purposes. Also, if you wish to contribute more, there will be a collection bucket ready for fundraising.
“We hope that the event will be a success and that people who come to join us in order to raise money for a good cause have fun and enjoy themselves knowing they are making a difference,” Dance Club fundraiser and organiser of the event Emma Douglas said.
For further information visit the Dance Comic Relief Fundraiser’s Facebook page and contact the UCLan Dance Club members Emma Douglas, Katy Kellet, Harriet Cater, Jo Lobb, Emily Robinson and Karen Quinlan.

An international group of IBC students at UCLan are going to launch the Around You – Places, People, Paradise photo exhibition in WorldWise Café on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Numerous photos contributed by students of the university will be displayed in the venue.
Melody Xu, Anna Mok, Tamara Baldominos Sanchez, Alice Aubree and Matthias Köster have been planning on tackling the event as a competition. With a free entry, you will have the chance to give your vote to your favourite. The picture with the most votes will receive a prize, which has yet been kept a secret by the organising team.
Being sponsored by the WorldWise Learning Centre, their aim is to further promote the cultural exchange at the WorldWise Learning Centre as well as the merge of nationalities.
Matthias Köster, IBC group member and creator of the event, said: “If there is a picture of a place in Spain and people show interest in learning Spanish, they can do this at the WorldWise Learning Centre. It offers a lot of different language courses and we will inform students about these opportunities. We would encourage a cultural dialogue. Our vision is that people would look at the pictures and talk to the photographers to interchange their views on the picture.”
Do not hesitate to bring in your creativity! Contribute your own personal paradise and win a prize! Send your Places, People, Paradise picture to places.people.paradise@gmail.com or visit the event's Facebook page.
The deadline for sending in pictures is Monday, March 14, 2011.
